I'd never heard of this book before now, but it sounds like an excellent read. I'll have to keep an eye out for it! Great review!

I agree - the Pulitzers seem pretty universally wonderful. I have enjoyed the Bookers, but they consistently are ranked lower than the Pulitzers. I have yet to read any of the authors you mentioned...but that will eventually be remedied as I plan to read ALL the Pulitzer winners!

Why is it that the Pulitzer committee always do such a much better job than the Booker judges? I've yet to read a dud and have discovered some wonderful writers as a result (Lahiri, Brooks, Russo, and on and on and on). In fact, I 'm just reading Russo's latest, 'Bridge of Sighs' and picked up the new Brooks yesterday from the library. The Russo is superb and I've heard great things about the Brooks yet I would have read neither without the Pulitzer.
