RR: Thank you! I used to just read review book in the order they arrived; then I decided it was really preferred to have them read and reviewed BEFORE their release date, so I’ve changed my tactic!

BooksPlease: I haven’t yet read Crossing To Safety – but I just picked it up this month at a library sale, so it will most likely be my next Stegner novel!

I’m catching up with reading Sunday Salon posts. Your porch looks just the right place to sit and read. I loved The Angle of Repose too. Have you read Stegner’s Crossing To Safety – another excellent book?

I haven’t developed a method for reading my review books (I’ve just started getting them, actually), so I like your idea of reading them in order of release date.

I’ll have to give Stegner a go. I don’t think I’ve ever even thought of it, to tell you the truth, but your recommendation is too much to resist! I’ll be interested to read your review of The Lace Reader, too.

I just have to say that I love reading your Salon posts, and I will have to check out that Steinbeck article, somehow I missed your orignial post.

I hope you enjoy those E.B. White essay’s. Of course Once More to the Lake is a favorite, but I hope you get to read The Ring of Time, it is a very interesting read.

Hey, thanks for the hat tip. Somehow, though, I imagine Gottlieb will soldier on. The fact that lots of people really like Steinbeck doesn’t exactly seem to register as the kind of thing he feels he should take notice of. Which is maybe why it’s such a problematic review.
