Mostly I feel like I don’t know enough to really let the events affect my judgment one way or the other. That was a long time ago, and people can change so much in that time, so there’s just no knowing what kind of person she is now. Without that… I just feel like what I know now isn’t enough information to affect my feelings on her and her books.

J.C.: Thanks for the compliments I plan to read all his essays, but I always love when a reader recommends a particular one…and you were “spot on!”

Heather: I’d love to read your thoughts on it…I’ve subscribed to the comments on Sam’s post and am following it.

Dew: I agree – personality quirks won’t keep me from reading a novel…but when the author has done something dispicable, it is harder to get past that.

I think that I would want to avoid writers who have done such heinous things as you mention here. I wouldn’t, however, have much problem with someone who was just a grumpy old curmudgeon (like Philip Roth)or who had different beliefs from mine or ripped apart other people’s books in reviews in major publications, etc.

I am so pleased that you enjoyed those essays, and your review of them…absolutely wonderful. I especially liked that you hung in there with “Ring In Time” for as you discovered it does come ’round – I loved it when you wrote, “And this is the beauty of White’s essays – he takes you on a journey along a crooked path and leads you where he wants you to go.”

J.Kaye: Since I’m hosting the Themed Challenge, I thought I should actually complete it *laughs* I’m way behind in challenges because I’ve been mostly reading early review books. But, I’m trying to just have fun and not worry too much about it.

Ann: I didn’t know that Jeffrey Archer had a criminal background! What did he do? Not that I read him…but, now I’m curious!

RR: I was stunned when I heard about Anne Perry. And you are right – I DEFINITELY need to read Jhumpa Lahiri’s stories!
