    What An Animal Challenge

    July 1, 2008 - June 30, 2009

Once again, I’ve been tempted by a challenge. Kristi from Passion For The Page is hosting this one - and it’s her first time hosting a challenge…so I wanted to support her! And I discovered that I actually had a lot of books in my TBR Mountain which I could use. Here’s the rules:

Read at least 6 books that have any of these requirements:

Crossovers are okay and lists are not necessary and can be changed at any time. I’ll be choosing my six books from this list (subject to change):

    1. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, by Mark Hadden
    2. The Feast of the Goat, by Mario Vargas Llosa
    3. Hope Rising, by Kim Meeder
    4. The Lizard Cage, by Karen Connelly
    5. Out Stealing Horses, by Per Petterson
    6. The Heart of Horses, by Molly Gloss
    7. The God of Animals, by Aryn Kyle
    8. Enemy Women, by Paulette Jiles
    9. Marley and Me, by John Grogan
    10. A Bridge Called Hope, by Kim Meeder

Thanks for joining the challenge, Wendy ;>). When I went through my TBR shelves, I was amazed at the number of books that fit the challenge, too — and, a challenge was born ;>). Can’t wait to hear what you think of your book choices! My TBR mountain is sure to grow…

I am going to join this one too. I am pretty sure I have six animal books around here somewhere.

Kristi: You’re welcome - I’m looking forward to this one…and most of these books are for other challenges too, so it works out great. I know what you mean about the TBR mountain!!!

Jill: It should be fun! Glad you’re joining!

I will be joining this challenge too. I have lots of books on my TBR that will fit. It’s just a bit too soon for me to read an animal book right now. Sigh.

OK, I have a GREAT possibility! (Just finished it, in fact.) How perfect is this, a memoir about life behind the scenes at the San Diego zoo! It’s called My Seven Years in Captivity” and is by the man who handled PR for the zoo. He had a number of interesting encounters in those years, of course. Enjoy stories with fun titles such as “The Pink Panda” and “Our Man-Eating Duck.”

It’s perfect, I tell you, just perfect.

I’m reading Curious Dog too! Loved Marley and Me!

Lizzie: I appreciate you wanting to market this book - I actually would prefer, however, that you not use my site as a way to self-promote. Thanks.

Nise: I have had Curious Dog on my shelf for far too long! And also I bought Marley and Me when it first came out…don’t know why I haven’t read it yet!

I can highly recommend Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night.

Kristen Bakis wrote this amazing book called The Lives of the Monster Dogs. She never wrote anything else, and I just lucked out to find it on a remainder table one day. It’s since become one of my all time favorites.

CBJames: Thanks for the recommendation on the Bakis book…I’ll have to check it out!
