Andi: I posted my review on McEwan’s book today Great book – such spare prose. Wow. I love the gymnastics too (although the US women had a rough night last night!)…I couldn’t live without my DVR right now

WendyCat: Oh, definitely tape some stuff and then zip through the commercials. Its the only way to watch!

Literate Housewife: LOL. I saved the US men’s 4X100 relay to watch repeatedly…wow, what a race!

Bree: I can tell you it was horrible since I just recently got a DVR.

Lisa: I’m afraid they’d have to run the Olympics 24-7 on several channels to play it all (not that I wouldn’t mind that!).

I watched last night. I wish they would go back to playing all of a sport instead of the best and the worst of the night. I don’t like skipping from gymnastics then swimming then whatever else.

What was TV life before DVRs? Horrible, I think. I don’t quite remember as I can’t imagine life without one now.

My daughters and I have really been enjoying the Olympics. I’m happy about DVRs myself. They can watch it over and over again in the car. That and Ninja Warrior.

We were talking about recording tv shows at my parents’ house tonight. We were wondering if people still recorded from tv! Obviously we are out of the loop. DVRs, eh?

I’ve read On Chesil Beach. Loved it. I’m awed by McEwan’s ability to say so much with so few words. He is magnificent. His writing is so spare, but gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

I caught a little bit of the Olympic games last night and then CJ was kind enough to dash me off an e-mail to let me know when I could watch a little of the badminton today. I hadn’t thought of recording any of the events, but that’s not a bad idea.

I look forward to reading your review of On Chesil Beach. I hope to read that one someday.

I absolutely cannot wait to hear what you think of On Chesil Beach. I listened to it on audio a few months ago (reviewed it for Bibliobuffet), and LOVED IT. I was so impressed with McEwan’s ability to create such a tense and emotionally powerful situation. He also read the audio version and did a wonderful job.

As for the Olympics, I’m watching women’s gymnastics. It’s the only sport I make a concerted effort to catch. And yay for DVRs!
