I love finding books in my mailbox (or arriving in the back of a UPS truck). Here’s what showed up last week:
Interpreter of Maladies AND Unaccustomed Earth, by Jhumpa Lahiri
I’ve been hearing about Lahiri’s work for a while now and these two collections come highly recommended. I’m lucky that I have bookish friends who love to buy books for me. These two books arrived unexpectedly as a surprise early birthday gift from two of my dearest book friends. Thank you Laura and Terri!

Happy Belated Birthday!
I love getting books in the mail too! Even better when they’re gifts. Happy Birthday!
Ooh, I think you will LOVE Lahiri. I enjoyed Interpreter of Maladies, and I just posted about getting Unaccustomed Earth from the library today! I can’t wait to get started on it.
I agree with Andi – Lahiri is my new favourite author. I just finished reading and posting about Unaccustomed Earth and I have Interpreter on the to be read very soon pile. I can’t stop raving about this author to anyone who will listen to me!
Shannon: Not belated at all! It is tomorrow (the 19th)
And thank you!
Darlene: Thanks!
Andi: Everyone I know is loving her…
Karen: This is why I just had to have these books
Generally, I do not enjoy reading short stories; J. Lahari is the exception. I’ve read both of those books and loved them, especially Unaccustomed Earth.
ENJOY!
Happy Birthday!!!!
‘Interpreter of Maladies’ changed my mind about the short story format; I loved it. I’m waiting for ‘Unaccustomed Earth to arrive from the library, so I’m seriously envious.
Thanks, Marcia
Ann: I don’t think I have heard one bad thing about either of these books!
Happy birthday! Better late than never (I hope!)
Those two story collections are awesome gifts – they are on my list of best books ever read
RR: Thank you! I am definitely going to have to read these sooner rather than later!
