…a new blog called Women Writers.
For a long time, I’ve thought about creating a focused blog celebrating some of the best (and newest) female voices in literature. I’ve been enthralled by The Orange Prize which recognizes women writers…and this just seemed to be a natural extension of my reading of the Orange Prize nominees and winners.
I envision a blog which not only profiles women writers who have won (or been nominated) for awards, but also recognizes some of the best of debut women authors. I plan on posting not only reviews of books by wonderful women writers and their profiles, but hope to lure some of them to provide guest posts about their thoughts on writing, women in literature and a host of other topics. I also want to explore issues effecting women writers throughout the world.
My new blog is in its very early stages of development - so I hope you will come back often to visit me there. Caribousmom will continue to serve as my “main” blog where I will post all my reviews and challenges, and general posts about books.

It has been like Christmas this week at my house. I’ve gotten some great books…
Guernica, by Dave Boling - This was completely unexpected as Bloomsbury had earlier sent me an Advance Readers Edition of this book…but this was a finished hard cover! I need to read Guernica very soon so that I can post a giveaway of my ARE here on my blog. Watch for my review and give-away sometime in the next month.
The UPS truck delivered a heavy package to my door on Friday from Miriam at Little, Brown and Company. Inside were these wonderful books:
Say You’re One of Them, by Uwem Akpan (a collection of short stories set in Africa)
An Exact Replica of a Figment of My Imagination, by Elizabeth McCracken (a memoir)
The Road Home, by Rose Tremain (the Orange Prize Winner for 2008)
and finally…
The Heretic’s Daughter, by Kathleen Kent which was sent to me to give away on my blog (this is a finished hard cover edition). I will be reading my ARE of this book very, very soon and posting information about how you can win the hard cover edition of this newly released novel here on my blog. Stay tuned!
