Friday, September 12th, 2008Guernica - Book Giveaway

Guernica, by Dave Boling
Published September 2, 2008 by Bloomsbury
I was lucky enough to not only receive an Advance Reader’s Edition of this entralling debut novel, but Bloomsbury also sent me a finished hard cover edition. I’ve decided to keep the hard cover (I know I’m being selfish, but I want it!) and give away my ARE of the book.
I am loving this book (I hope to finish it by the end of the weekend, so watch for my review) which is an historical novel and also a family saga set in the Basque region of Spain before and during WWII. Boling is a Chicago native currently working as a journalist in the Seattle area. You can read more about the book and author by visiting Dave Boling’s website.
To enter this giveaway you must leave me a comment with a link to one of your favorite book blogs in honor of Book Blogger Appreciation Week. If you don’t leave me a link, you will NOT be entered! The contest is open to US and Canada mailing addresses. I will take comments through September 19th, Midnight PST. I will draw a winner on September 20th and announce it here on my blog.

September 12, 2008
Are you constantly looking for the next book to add to your towering TBR mountain? I know I am - even though there are far more books than I can read in a lifetime. This week, while cruising the book blogs, I found some interesting reads.
Undiscovered Country, by Lin Enger as featured on Michelle’s blog 1More Chapter. I actually saw this book on the new release shelf at Barnes and Noble and immediately was drawn to it (does that ever happen to you?). So when I read how much Michelle liked the book, I immediately added it to my Amazon wishlist. In her review, Michelle writes: ‘Enger’s descriptions of the starkly cold winters in Minnesota really add to the atmosphere of the book, and his writing of the characters, though familiar, seem very real. ‘ Sound good to me!
The Likeness, by Tana French as featured on Tara’s blog Book and Cooks. I bought the prequel to this novel (In The Woods) and even though I haven’t read that one yet, this one is catching my attention. Tara writes: ‘… there is a great feeling of tension and suspense.‘ I like tension and suspense so onto my wish list French’s latest novel goes.
The Mysteries of Glass, by Sue Gee as featured on Karen’s blog Cornflower. Karen’s book group is going to be reading this novel in November and she makes it sound like a fantastic book to read and discuss. The novel is set in Victorian Hereford in 1860 and apparently is “exquisitely written.” Karen has read another book by Gee which she loved.
All Passion Spent, by Vita Sackville-West as featured on Laura’s blog Musings. Laura and I are bookie soulmates - whatever she loves, I generally love; whatever she dislikes, there I am too. So I knew I needed to add it to my wishlist when Laura gave this book 4.5 starts and wrote: ‘The ending is quite profound, as Deborah begins to see how life could be different for women of younger generations.‘
What did you find this week? Why not stop over and read Jenn’s Friday Finds post for today and leave her a comment?
