Another wonderful review Wendy. This is on my TBR along with her other books. I do tend to read a lot of “strong literary novels with tragic characters”, so this is probably a novel for me.

That’s too funny! “We Were the Mulvaneys” was a good family drama, and I can’t get enough of those. I just thought Oates could’ve cut a chunk out of “The Gravedigger’s Daughter” without really affecting the plot. The story itself was interesting, though. I’ll definitely be reading more of your reviews. I found you through BBAW!

I’ve read a few of Oates’ books, and my favorite was “We Were the Mulvaneys.” I read “The Gravedigger’s Daughter” recently, but I thought that one dragged a bit. I enjoyed your review, and I think I’ll read this one eventually.

Fantastic review! I’ve never read JCO books, but I think its time I do! I just read and reviewed Mudbound by Hillary Jordan and LOVED it. I love reading about the south and the families that worked the land. I’ll have to pick this one up.
