Another wonderful review Wendy. This is on my TBR along with her other books. I do tend to read a lot of "strong literary novels with tragic characters", so this is probably a novel for me.

Anna: I always laugh when I see those opposite reactions - just goes to show you that what is wonderful to one person is not so wonderful to the next...but that is what makes the world so interesting! Glad you found me and are enjoying the reviews :)

That's too funny! "We Were the Mulvaneys" was a good family drama, and I can't get enough of those. I just thought Oates could've cut a chunk out of "The Gravedigger's Daughter" without really affecting the plot. The story itself was interesting, though. I'll definitely be reading more of your reviews. I found you through BBAW!

Anna: I've heard mixed reviews on We Were the Mulvaneys - but almost everyone seems to like The Gravedigger's Daughter ... *laughs* Glad you enjoyed the review. Come back and let me know how you liked the book after you've read it...I love hearing other readers' thoughts on books I've read!

I've read a few of Oates' books, and my favorite was "We Were the Mulvaneys." I read "The Gravedigger's Daughter" recently, but I thought that one dragged a bit. I enjoyed your review, and I think I'll read this one eventually.

LadyTink: Thank you! I know what you mean about sad stories!

Lisa: Thank you! I have only heard wonderful things about Mudbound...it is definitely on my wish list of books to read. If you like stories about farm workers, you will like this Oates novel...

Fantastic review! I've never read JCO books, but I think its time I do! I just read and reviewed Mudbound by Hillary Jordan and LOVED it. I love reading about the south and the families that worked the land. I'll have to pick this one up.
