Good morning fellow readers! I had a crazy week of work again and so my reading was a bit slow. I finished Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (read my review) which I absolutely loved. I have My Cousin Rachel on my TBR mountain and will need to move it up in the stacks. Reading Rebecca has also made me eager to watch the movie made from the novel and directed by Alfred Hitchock.

I’ve now picked up The Year of Fog, by Michelle Richmond. Yesterday I blew through 200 pages of this engrossing novel about a missing child. Richmond writes from the heart and is spot on when it comes to the emotions encountered when a child disappears. Having volunteered in Search and Rescue for more than 10 years, I am finding myself impressed with Richmond’s impeccable detail and the way she gets inside the head of the woman who feels responsible for “losing” the child. At times I find myself wiping away tears. The book is also a page-turner (I stayed up well past my bedtime last night reading). Look for a review and a giveaway of an autographed trade paperback of this book SOON.
In other reading news, I’ve decided to convert the annual Notable Books Challenge into a perpetual challenge. I will also be hosting the Themed Reading Challenge in 2009 – so watch my blog for details in December. It will be similar to last year’s challenge with some small changes.
If you are reading this post from a feeder, please click over to my blog to see my new header designed by Michelle at 1MoreChapter.
What are you reading today? Whatever it is, I hope it is engaging and wonderful!

I loved Year of Fog…you need to pick up her latest, No One You Know, next.
My Cousin Rachel is amazing! Can’t wait to hear what you think of it.
Wasn’t Mrs. Withers the spookiest? =) I didn’t care the narrator much in the book, but I bet the movie is terrific. Happy Sunday!
I MUST read ‘The Year of Fog’! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Can’t wait for the giveaway! Enjoy your Sunday!
I absolutely love Rebecca and I envy you that you haven’t yet seen the movie. It’s wonderful!
Have a great week.
I love your new header! What am I reading? Nothing! I’m still trying to catch up after all the election excitement. I hope to get back to my current read this evening.
I didn’t even know about this movie. I have to check it out as I recently read and enjoyed Rebecca as well. Thanks!
Love the new header! Dog pictures always make me smile.
Glad you are enjoying The Year of Fog, and I second the comment about reading No One You Know as well. They’re both among the best books I’ve read this year, and Michelle Richmond did a guest post on my blog back in June.
I loved the Hitchcock Rebecca! Apparently Olivier was horrid to Joan Fontaine through the entire filming (which gave a really great dimension to their performances, actually.) Both the book and Rachel are superb.
Jill: After finishing The Year of Fog, I cannot wait to read more of Richmond’s books!
Katherine: du Maurier is definitely a writer from whom I will read more. Thanks for the recommendation on My Cousin Rachel…sounds great!
Jill: You mean Mrs. Danvers? Yes, she was VERY spooky and weird!
Lisa: The giveaway is posted!
Karen: I will need to find a copy of the movie.
Les: Thank you! Hope you pick up a good book soon
Samantha: The movie was released in 1940…so it is an old one!
Florinda: Dog photos make me smile too…thank you! I remember Michelle’s guest post on your blog…she seems like such a nice and REAL person, doesn’t she? I’m looking forward to reading more of her work.
Kate: I am really looking forward to seeing the movie…thanks for some of that background!
I enjoyed both Rebecca the book and the movie…God, Laurence Olivier is good looking
. The movie is a bit slow though, but worth watching! Keep an eye on the movie classics channel, that’s where I found it!
Can’t wait to hear what you think about the movie Rebecca. I love the oldies!
Annette
S Krishna: He *is* good looking
*laughs* I think I can also find the movie on Amazon.
Annette: I’ll let you know once I’ve watched it
