The last few days have been ones of shock, grief, and remembrance of our dear friend Dewey…she has left her mark on our community and we will miss her immensely.
One of the most wonderful things that is happening out of all this sadness, is that the book blogging community is coming together to remember Dewey and make sure her many projects keep going. Given that Dewey was a tireless community builder, I know she is smiling down on us from Heaven, happy that we are indeed the community she knew us to be.
Here are some of the things happening if you want to get involved:
- A wonderful discussion has been started at Book Blogs – people are talking about how to share the organization of Dewey’s projects (24 hour Read A Thon, Bookworm Carnivals, and Weekly Geeks). There is discussion of creating dedicated blogs for these projects, as well as Yahoo groups. To join the discussion, visit this link.
- Becky at Becky’s Book Reviews has started the ball rolling by asking that this Saturday’s Weekly Geeks be dedicated to Dewey. To read more and to join us, visit Becky’s post about the event.
- Lisa Roe, Publicist, has offered to mail cards to Dewey’s family. She is asking that people send her cards within the next two weeks. She will then bundle them all (in their original envelopes) into one large envelope and mail them. If you are interested in this project, please contact Lisa through her website.
- Finally, there are several buttons which have been designed in Dewey’s memory. It has been suggested that bloggers display a button in Dewey’s memory in the sidebar of their blog. Feel free to save the buttons below and use them on your blog:
