Russian Reading Challenge 2008

January 1, 2008 – December 31, 2008

December 7, 2008: Giving up the Challenge

Wow, I really bombed on this challenge by reading only ONE book! I found myself just too overchallenged this year – and more interested in reading newer books than some of the classics.

Sharon at Ex Libris is hosting an intriguing challenge: The 2008 Russian Reading Challenge. She has started a group blog which has numerous links to Russian literature sources.

The goal is to read a minimum of four books (fiction, non fiction, memoir, etc…) either about Russia or written by Russian authors. Participants will be posting their lists and reviews on the group blog.

I’ve decided to make a list of books from which I will choose my books to be read:

Oblomov, by Ivan Goncharov
Home of the Gentry, by Ivan Turgenov (COMPLETED June 19, 2008; rated 3/5; read my review)
War and Peace, by Leo Tolstoy (new translation)
The Brothers Karamazov, by Fyodor Dostoevsky
A Russian Journal, by John Steinbeck

**More to be added per my whim!

Please follow and like the blue thistle

I’m only in 2 challenges and I haven’t done very well on either one of them, so you’re not alone.

Kathy: Glad someone else is struggling with some of these – that way I’m not alone in my failure *laughs*
