Looking Back on 2008…

Happy New Year to all my readers!

I love reflecting on the past year of reading, and 2008 was an exceptional year for me. I read more books, more pages, and more new to me authors than ever before. I found myself drowning in free books (not a bad thing!).  I rated 79 of my 101 reads good or better – so 2008 saw me reading some of the best literature ever.

I’ve compiled all the numbers and statistics on my 2008 Reading Journal which you can read here.

In 2008, I met some wonderful bookish friends and found some amazing blogs to read. I participated in book blog events and challenges, and was infected by this community’s love of literature and sense of community. We lost a good friend and fellow reader, and discovered how much we cared about our little “neighborhood.” I attended a book event in San Jose and met two wonderful book bloggers as well as some amazing writers. I traveled to Oregon and connected with some fabulous women who I have come to know and love through Library Thing.

2008 will also be remembered for the boom in free books – book bloggers were recognized by authors and publishers and found themselves swamped in early review books and ARCs. Along with that came some great discussions on responsibility and integrity in reviewing books.

In looking back, I realize I was truly blessed in 2008 with great books and amazing friends.

AND, I am looking forward to more in 2009!
