An Update and Thank You…

thebou00011 Caribou, Kip and I thank you for the numerous comments, emails, good thoughts and prayers over the last few days. You have no idea how much it has meant to us. Caribou has responded very well to the pain medication and there is a twinkle back in her eyes (and she is telling Argus who is boss again). This is good. We are still unclear as to what the diagnosis is, but as long as she is comfortable and enjoying her life, I am thankful. For now, Caribou’s condition seems to have stabilized. I intend to spend as much quality time with her as I can over the next days, weeks and hopefully months. God has given me this beautiful canine partner and I am reminding myself each day to enjoy her in my life.

I have also been overwhelmed with the generosity of blogging awards in the last week or so and would like to take a few minutes to recognize them and shout out a big thank you!

Premio Dardas Award

This award acknowledges the values that every blogger shows in his or her effort to transmit cultural, ethical, literary, and personal values every day.

Jackie at Farm Lane Books Blog, Amy at My Friend Amy, and Teddy at So Many Precious Books, So Little Time honored me with this award.

The Butterfly Award

For the Coolest blog I ever know…

I was awarded this by Kristi at Books and Needlepoint, and Stacy at Book PSmith.

Kreative Blogger Award

Presented to bloggers whose creativeness inspires…

Sheri at A Novel Menagerie flattered me with this award and wrote: OK… so I am in love with her doggie just a little… but, there’s a lot more going on at this gal’s terrific blog.  Her writing is always creative, her site well organized, and I simply cannot wait to read her posts.

Also, Jenn at Should Be Reading recognized my blog A Novel Challenge for this award. She recognized me as “most organized” and wrote: “as she helps us all keep track of what challenges & events are taking place in the blog-o-sphere, and where to find them!

Great Buddy Award

…for blogging buddies

Presented to me by a wonderful blogging buddy Teddy at So Many Precious Books, So Little Time.

And finally, Lenore at Presenting Lenore included Caribousmom in her Rock My World Awards and recognized this blog for Top Notch Book Reviews (I also was thrilled to win one a copy of The Reincarnationist over at her blog!)

All of these bloggers are fantastic – I read their blogs daily as they are on my Google Reader. Each and everyone of them deserves these awards as well. THANK YOU to all of them for the recognition. I would also like to add that I read more than 300 blogs! Every time these awards go out, I struggle because I’d like to list every blog I enjoy.

Please follow and like the blue thistle

I’m happy to hear Caribou is feeling better! I have two cats and I have to remember that I need to enjoy them and spend as much time as I can with them. I too believe they are a blessing from God, so I must do what I can for them. They bring me much joy and laughter (even when they’re getting into my stuff). I hope she’s back to herself very soon.

What wonderful news about Caribou. Congratulations on your awards!

    • Laura on January 10, 2009 at 12:01

Great news Wendy. I’m glad Caribou has her “twinkle” back.

    • Ali on January 10, 2009 at 12:15

I’m so glad to hear that, Wendy. I hope she continues to improve, it sounds like she’s a very special dog. My son wants to know how she introduced you to Kip. He thought that was cool.

    • Wendy on January 10, 2009 at 12:23

Thanks Shonda – it is so easy to take our furbabies for granted (especially when they are young and healthy)…I am trying to be more thankful lately.

    Kathy: Thanks 🙂

Laura: The “twinkle” is what is most important right now.

Ali: *laughs* You can tell your son that Caribou introduced me by choosing Argus as a playmate at a Search and Rescue Training. Argus is also a certified search dog and he is Kip’s partner. Caribou was being quite silly with Argus – play bows and stick tugging – which was not really her nature around other search and rescue dogs (usually she was quite “dignified” and concerned about being seen as the alpha in the bunch). So, I said, “Whose dog is that? I should meet that person.” And of course it was Kip. We like to tell people the dogs fell in love before we did – but it is true that without them we might not have met at all.

I’m so happy that she is feeling better. That’s wonderful. Prayers were answered. Let’s hope that everything’s going to be fine for her and that she’ll live the longest life possible with the best quality possible.

Congrats on all of the awards. You deserve it!

  1. Oh so glad to hear about Caribou’s twinkle! That’s good news. She’s undoubtedly ecstatic that you’ll be spending as much time with her as possible.

Be well, my award winning friend!

    • Kelly on January 10, 2009 at 19:32

My dog Sam and I are very happy to hear that Caribou is doing better. 🙂

(If Sam weren’t a spoiled only child/dog, he’d probably send her a bag of Beggin’ Strips to celebrate.)

  3. I’m glad to hear that he is doing well! I hope he continues to feel better!

    • Teddy on January 10, 2009 at 22:36

Thanks so much for the update Wendy I have been so worried. I’m so glad he is feeling better even if it may be temporary. You have gotten the gift that I wish we could have had with Robbie. I just wanted a few more days.

I hope for lots and lots of “a few more days” with Caribous.

Enjoy the awards, you deserve them.

    • Kim on January 10, 2009 at 22:55

I am wishing you all the best with Caribou. Animals sure have a way of working their way into our hearts, don’t they.
    *smiles and hugs to you*

    • Kathrin on January 11, 2009 at 04:20

Hi Wendy, I just wanted to let you know I have awarded you with the Premio Dardas Award. Please check my blog for more info…

    • lenore on January 11, 2009 at 07:34

I am so thrilled to hear she’s doing better. Hope the news continues to be good 🙂

    • Darlene on January 11, 2009 at 08:20

I am so happy to hear that Caribou is doing better Wendy. I’m praying she stays that way. I am thankful everyday for my little guy Buddy who by the way is sending Caribou hugs and slurps.

  4. Congrats on your awards! Sorry to hear about Caribou. Wanted to let you know that we had a bout with arthritis with one of our dogs and our vet suggested Previcox, which worked wonderfully. It made him act like a young dog again and I think eased his pain right before it got so bad that we had to put him down. You may check into it…I think it is a wonderful medicine for dogs.

    • Wendy on January 11, 2009 at 09:27

Sheri: With all the well wishes and prayers, I”m not surprised that positive energy made Caribou feel better! Thanks 🙂

Terri: Thank you my friend *hugs*

Ali: Just call us 101 Dalmations *smiles*

    Sandra: Thank you!

    Melanie: you’re welcome 🙂

Staci: *laughs* Holy blogger batman is right! I think I’m a little obsessed (okay, maybe a LOT obsessed!)

    Kailana: Thank you!

Kelly: Tell Sam it is the thought that counts (I don’t think Caribou would share her Beggin’ Strips either!)

    Natasha: many thanks!~

Teddy: I know – I was so hoping you would get more time with Robbie. I feel grateful for every minute with my girl.

Kim: They are such a huge part of my life – they are wonderful.

    Kathrin: Aw, thank you!

Lenore: I hope the news continues to be good too … thanks for the well wishes!

Darlene: Caribou sends Buddy back a couple of head bites and tail wags!

Shelly: Thanks for the information. I haven’t heard of that medication. Caribou has been on Duramax for quite some time which has worked well for her arthritis (but might be part of the problem now as it has some bad side effects). We’ve been using Tramadol the last few days. I’ll have to ask the vet about Previcox (is it similar to Rimadyl?) The problem doesn’t really seem to be arthritis, though – we have a pretty good handle on that. She has had belly pain…which is either an ulcer or possibly cancer…Obviously we are hoping for the former.

    • Lynda on January 11, 2009 at 13:11
