mailboxmonday What arrived in YOUR mailbox this week? Visit Marcia at today’s post on The Printed Page to leave a link to your post and see what other readers acquired! Here is what arrived at my house:

jeweltrader The Jewel Trader of Pegu, by Jeffrey Hantover arrived as a review book from Danny Goldstein (Harper Collins). The St. Petersburg Times writes: ‘Part travelogue, part love story, part philosophical discourse on humanity and the nature of faith…a lovely piece of work.‘ Sounds good, doesn’t it? Thanks for sending it to me, Danny!

cuttingforstone Cutting for Stone, by Abraham Verghese arrived in Uncorrected Proof form from Alfred A. Knopf.  An epic story which spans five decades and three continents, Cutting for Stone is getting great early reviews. I can’t wait to read it!

fireflylane Firefly Lane, by Kristin Hannah arrived unsolicited from the online marketing coordinator of St. Martin’s Reading Group Gold. I completed an online survey for them not too long ago and this was their thank you for those who participated.  Firefly Lane is the story of two friends “blessed and cursed by choices.” Thank you St. Martin’s!

I got The Jewel Trader from Mr. Goldstein too this week. It sounds exciting. I requested an Arc of Cutting For Stone, let’s hope it gets this far north. I look forward to your reviews.

  2. Boy, you are just a book magnet, aren’t you?? I had that last one as an Early Reviewer book. I won’t say much, only that it’s at the very top of my poo pile an not likely to get knocked off anytime soon! Hope you like it better.

  3. The Jewel Trader of Pegu looks fantastic!

  5. Elizabeth says:

I got Firefly Lane, too – your other books look great!

  6. Laura says:

I can’t believe Jewel Trader is still an ARC. I received it as an LT Early Reviewer copy sometime early in 2008. And it’s not published yet? What’s up with that? Well, I really hate to tell you this, my dear bookie soulmate, but I think there’s a reason it’s still an ARC … it may have some stains from that pile Terri mentioned. However, I will be most interested in your thoughts!

  7. Kathy says:

Sandra: I hope you get Cutting for Stone – it looks awesome.

Terri: I remember you saying you did not like Firefly Lane – I didn’t request that one…but I’m willing to give it a go and see what I think!

    Amy: I thought so too.

Kailana: It is a short book so I’ll probably get to it fairly soon.

Elizabeth: Did you get Firefly Lane through the Reading Group Gold too?

Laura: No, it is not an ARC – it is a finished trade paperback – but it was sent to me for review (which is why I said review book *smiles*). I forgot you read that one and didn’t like it (oh dear!)

    Kathy: I hope so too!

Thank you for stopping by the ‘mailbox’ this week. I’ve read ‘Firefly Lane’ and enjoyed it. I have her newest, ‘True Colors’ in my TBR pile and it will be up soon. I’m finding the comments regarding ‘The Jewel Trader from Pegu’ very interesting. It’s been on my wish list for a while now I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Marcia: It is always so intriguing to read the vastly different thoughts on a book, isn’t it? I take it all in, but I always reserve judgment until I’ve read it myself!
