The Letter “M”…

letter_m_1

The lovely Terri at Reading, Writing and Retirement tempted me to participate in this meme – she gave me the letter “M” and my task is to name 10 things I love which begin with this letter. Ready?

minis-mm M & M’s – who doesn’t love these candies? My favorite way to eat them is one at a time, letting the outside shell melt on my tongue.

maia040001 Maia, my beautiful tortie-point Siamese mix. She arrived as a stray and delivered her five kittens the next day. Sweet, soft and oh so gorgeous…

mendo2008coast40001 Mendocino - one of the most beautiful places in the world. Not only is the view spectacular, but the shopping (and specifically the great little bookstore) is wonderful. Mendocino is also host to the Mendocino Writer’s Conference which I was lucky enough to attend one year.

monkey MonkeysJane Goodall was my hero when I was a child (and I even got to meet her years ago when she gave a talk at the Oakland Zoo), so of course I love monkeys. There was a period of time in my youth (I think I was nine or ten years old) when I used to climb trees and pretend I was a monkey.

macaroni-and-cheese Macaroni and Cheese – the ultimate comfort food. Truth be told, I could sit down and eat an entire casserole of this dish. The only thing that rivals it in the comfort category is Shepherd’s Pie. But I didn’t get the letter “S”…

bouwendy Mountains…this is one of my favorite photos of me and Caribou near Lake Tahoe. My husband and I live in the mountains close to Lassen Volcanic National Park and I love the smell of the pines, the cool mountain air and the amazing wildlife.

mittens020001 Mittens – and specifically those pictured here which my sister knitted and felted for me…they are thick, warm and just gorgeous (please do click on the photo to enlarge the picture!).

mailbox Mail (no that is not my mailbox). I love getting the mail – and every Monday I share with you the books that arrive at my house.

mendo2008geese0001 The Month Of May (I took this photo in May in Mendocino!) – Kip and I were married in May and to me the month represents Spring and renewal. I love the emergence of the flowers, the green meadows, the glint of sun on the still snowcapped mountains … and of course the weather!

maine-lighthouse Maine – I lived in Maine for several years…I also attended Physical Therapy School in Maine…and it is a beautiful State. I love the rocky coastline, the pines that grow all the way to the shore, the independent people, the vast array of antique stores, and the quaint villages. If you’ve never visited Maine – you should!

Those are my 10 M-words…others that also get a nod from me are Muse, Music, (my niece) Mae, Mom, Milkshakes (chocolate please!), Moon, Mysteries, and Make Believe.

Wanna play? Email me and I will send you a letter!

Your sister is quite a talented knitter – love the mittens. Here in the south, macaroni and cheese is considered a vegetable.

  2. Wonderful post Wendy! Mmmmm mmmmm good! Love the mittens And the photo of you and ‘Bou is just beautiful.

Mac and cheese is one of my favorite comfort foods too.
    xoxo

Thanks for the shout out on the mittens – I loved making them for you! And I never knew that you and I eat M&M’s exactly the same way! Love you sis.

OMG I love mac and cheese. Especially my homemade mac and cheese. Even more especially when I saute some onions and add those in. The best part is the crusty top that has the cheese and breadcrumbs.

Maybe I’ll see you in Mendocino one of these days. ;-)

  6. Florinda says:

I have to agree with you about mac & cheese. Now I feel like making some tonight :-) .

Maine is the only New England state I’ve never been to, but I want to make up for that one day.

It sounds like you live in the general vicinity (very general) of my in-laws’ fishing cabin, which is sort-of between Yosemite and Tahoe. Beautiful area – we’re looking forward to going up there in the summer.

  7. Kailana says:

I really like Maine, too! My father used to work on the Bluenose, which is a ferry that runs between Nova Scotia (where I live) and Bar Harbour, Maine. So, I have been there plenty of times! Now they have this fancy ‘Cat’ running between the two places, so I have only been over once in the last few years. Actually, with the exception of having never met your cat, I like all the items on your list myself. :)

Marvelous answers! Mittens and mountains and mac-n-cheese are some of my favs too! I still act like a monkey sometimes…

  9. Lexi says:

Aw, Ricky and I are getting married in May, too! Your Top Ten was awesome!

  10. No, no, that isn’t my mailbox. That’s a bit over the top, even for me!

  11. Les in NE says:

Great meme, Wendy!! That mac & cheese looks awesome. Makes me realize I haven’t made my favorite recipe for it in far too long!! Must rectify that.

I’ve never been to Maine, but I sure would love to someday. I’d love to go to Mendocino sometime, too. Just need to make the time for some road trips!

  12. Kim says:

I love your list! Visiting Maine has been a dream of mine for many years…maybe someday? I could really go for some of that mac & cheese right now too.
    *smiles*

  14. Jenny says:

Hooray for Maine! My family used to go there for vacation every year – we would always go to Nubble Light and have a picnic on the rocks. :)

Kathy: I agree – my sister knits the most beautiful things! *laughing* about Mac and Cheese being a vegetable in the south.

Terri: thanks :) I love that photo of me and Bou – she was in her prime then and it reminds of all the great places we went to together.

    Serena: Glad you agree!

Paula: *smiling* so we eat M&Ms the same…just another thing we do the same!!!

Trish: I’d love to see you in Mendocino someday…and crusty tops on Mac and Cheese? YES!

Chartroose: *laughs* Glad you agree with my list!!

Lexi: Thanks… and congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

Tanabata: I will tell Maia you said so :)
