Ali: *nods* Which is one reason I enjoy short story collections - they are usually united in some way by theme and so it feels more cohesive to me.

I do like short stories, but often get stuck by the exact thing Brady talks about in her post--either I never quite get involved with the characters, or I get so involved that I feel cheated when the story ends. For me, it really helps when the theme is transparent. Also, with certain authors, I find myself caught up in their world so that even when the characters and plots are completely different, there's a common thread--that keeps me hooked in.

Jenny: I have yet to see a bad review of this collection - I highly recommend it because even if you think you don't like short stories, these are very in-depth in terms of character development. I bet you'll like them!

Serena: Thanks :)

Swapna: Thanks :)

Okay, I have been hearing about this book of short stories everywhere. I am usually resistant to reading short story collections, but I love these titles! And I am always attracted to stories that remind me of Tarot cards - your description of these stories' theme makes me think of the Tower, one of my favorite cards.
