You're welcome, Les. I have never read anything by Kluger...I have no idea when I'll actually get to either of these books; but when I do, you'll see them reviewed here! Don't apologize for decreased blog hopping - we all have lives outside of the blogs, so I completely understand!

Thanks for the shout-out (twice!), Wendy. I hope you enjoy The Forgotten Garden. It certainly could have been a matter of poor timing for me.

I'm anxious to read more by Steve Kluger. A friend recently wrote to tell me about another book called My Most Excellent Year. Apparently, it's a teen novel by Kluger. I want to read it and Almost Like Being In Love.

I'll be anxious to hear your thoughts on the books. Sorry to be such a poor blog-hopper. We were in St. Louis for several days and I'm just now catching up on book blogs. My photo blog is all-consuming and I so need to work on my time management! ;)

Karen: I think sophomore attempts are hard for new writers...but it is good to know that even though it wasn't as good as novel #1, you still enjoyed it.

I loved Kate Morton's first book but didn't find her second novel quite as well written - did still enjoy the read though. Looking forward to hearing what you think about it.

Molly: I also loved The Thirteenth Tale...it was such a gothic, lush book. I wish she'd write another one!

Popin: I haven't seen The Changeling...but I don't tend to watch a ton of movies.

Jackie: you are quite welcome, my dear :) I liked The Shadow of the Wind quite a bit, but it didn't quite grab me like The Thirteenth Tale - they were both gothic books which had a strong literary element...so maybe that is the connection?

Avisannschild: I'll need to go check out your post and read that positive review! Thanks for the heads up!!

Serena: Good to know - I'll drop in and read your review (although I am now beginning to suspect that I may have already featured this book on FF and used your review already *laughing*...will have to check!

Kim: I love the cover art too :) I'm a sucker for great covers. Glad to know you also enjoyed The Last Days of Summer.

Katherine: Another in the plus column for that book - YAY! I agree that second novels sometimes don't live up to debuts...

I enjoyed The Forgotten Garden--very good story there. I feel that sometimes it's difficult for authors to follow up their first novel with something strong the second time around, and Kate Morton delivered here. Definitely for fans of The Tea Rose, though I'm puzzled at the comparison with Shadow of the Wind (other than that they're both well-written novels). I also agree with Kim above about the cover.

The Last Days of Summer is such an enjoyable read--I bet you will like it! I have had my eye on The Forgotten Garden just because of the beautiful cover--having loved The Thirteenth Tale I have high hopes for this one. Great post!

I also featured The Forgotten Garden in my FF post this week, although mine is based on a positive review. I loved The Thirteenth Tale, so Lesley's review works for me too!
