Good morning, fellow readers and Happy Father’s Day to those dads out there who may be reading my blog today. This weekend has been a busy one for me. I worked most of the day on Friday and then began working on Natasha’s fantastic challenge: Bloggiesta. You can see what I’ve been doing by visiting my wrap-up on the challenge. I hope you’ll stop in (if you are reading by a feed reader) and see my new look which Michelle at 1 More Chapter created for me – and you might want to drop by Michelle’s blog and give her a virtual hug…she had a rough night re-building her blog when it crashed!
As far as reading goes, I have had a pretty good week. I finished reading Laura Lippman’s terrific mystery What The Dead Know (read my review). She is a wonderful writer and I will be picking up more of her books in the future.
Next I finished the short collection of stories by Simon Van Booy (read my review). He is a poetic writer and this is a good collection which I highly recommend.
I was going to read Sea of Poppies next, but I’m not in the mood for that one at the moment. So instead I have picked up The Local News by Miriam Gershow which I will be touring with TLC Book Tours on July 9th. You’ll have to wait for my review until then. But I will tell you that I was hooked in the story by page 10. I also have an Advance Readers Edition of this book which I will be giving away in July.
My next read is going to be one of these:
- Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh
- The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
Also on my reading list is:
- The Bohemian Girl: Collection of Short Stories by Willa Cather
- The House on Fortune Street by Margot Livesey
- Angel’s Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon
- Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill
Later today I am going to be setting up my brand new bookcase!! I can’t wait to get some organization into my stacks.
What are you doing today? Whatever it is, I hope it involves a good book.

Hi Wendy! I’ve got about 50 pages to go in The Local News (have to hurry, my tour stop is tomorrow). I was hooked really quickly too!
The Elegance of the Hedgehog is one I picked up at The Fest. of Books in April but it’s still waiting it’s turn.. must get to it soon!
Have a great Sunday!
Okay, I’m officially envious of your brand new bookcase. I need another one so badly.
Looks like you had a good reading week. Well done on taking part in the Bloggiesta challenge. I would have loved to, only didn’t have time.
I JUST got “The Angel’s Game” from BJ’s a couple hours ago! My mom and I had gone there to get food for our Father’s Day party. I’ll be starting it once I’m done with Haruki Murakami’s “The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.”
You have some great reads coming up! I very much enjoyed What The Dead Know and plan to read Life Sentences very soon.
What a fun new look! I’ve been thinking about rearranging my books…maybe today is the day!
The blog looks wonderful! I am curious about The Local News and will have to remember the book tour. I am also envious of your new bookcase! Have a great week.
You had a very productive week.
TSS: The 19th Wife: why I set it aside
Lisa: I would have gotten farther in The Local News, but the Bloggiesta ate up a lot of my weekend. However, I read until 11:00pm last night (couldn’t stop!!). I’m looking forward to your review!
Kathy: I have been waiting a long time for that bookcase…and I still need another one *laughs*
Vivienne: I think they’ll host the Bloggiesta again – so hopefully you can participate in the future. It was really fun.
El Fay: Oh, I’ll look forward to your review of Angel’s Game. And what are you thinking about Murakami’s books? I have that one on my TBR shelf.
Lenore: I want to read more Lippman too!
Eva: Thanks to Michelle who helped me with this look
Gavin: Thank you! The Local News is so far really good…I am eager to read other opinions.
Gautami: Yup
I think your blog is looking great! I’m jealous of your new bookcase. I desperately need another!
