Kathy: If you like hard boiled...this one will be right up your alley!

Amy: It took me about 50 pages to get into the flow of the book.

Diane: There are definitely a lot of characters in this one. This is my first Mosley, so I can't compare it to his other work unfortunately.

Anne: regarding Mosley's books - this was my first, so I have no other recommendations for him. I would be interested to read another (earlier) book by him to see how it compares. It did seem that a lot of Mosley fans weren't thrilled with The Long Fall for some reason.

Rhapsody: Good to see you liked it! *laughing* about the 40s movie scene - that's all I could think of while I was reading it :)

Staci: I hope you'll like it! You'll have to let me know what you think once you've read it :)

I really enjoyed this book, and you captured the tone perfectly: the 1940's movie!

I read one of Mosley's books some years ago, (the first of the Easy Rawlins series?) and remember quite enjoying it, but obviously not that much because I haven't been back since. Possibly then this isn't the one to try if you and other commentators have found it difficult. Any other suggestions?

I usually LOVE Walter Mosley's books, but for some reason I passed on this one. I think it was because I read a few reviews and there were lots of characters to keep track of. I like his audio books and too many people is too confusing on audio --for mr at least.

Thanks for the review; i appreciate it.

Great review! I tried this one a few weeks ago, but I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I'll try again!

I haven't read a mystery in a while, but I do enjoy a "hard-boiled" one from time to time, so I just might enjoy this one.
