Happy Monday … and welcome to another edition of Mailbox Monday hosted by Marcia at The Printed Page. Here is where you can see the books which arrived at my home over the last week.
To view other reader’s mailboxes OR to share yours…stop off at today’s Mailbox Monday on Marica’s blog.
Here is what found its way to my house this week:
The Russian Dreambook of Color and Flight by Gina Oshsner arrived from agent Julie Barer. I was really excited to see that this novel was long listed for the Orange Prize in 2009, so it will count towards my Orange Prize Project reading. It was originally published in Great Britain by Portobello Books, but is now being released in the United States in February 2010 by Harcourt Mifflin Harcourt. Oshsner has previously authored two collections of short stories and is the recipient of the Flannery O’Connor Award, the Ruth Hindman Foundation Prize and the Raymond Carver Prize. Her writing has been favorably compared to such authors as Jhumpa Lahiri, Isabel Allende and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. To learn more about the book, visit the Harcourt site.
The Day the Falls Stood Still by Cathy Marie Buchanan arrived from Hyperion Voice through a Library Thing Early Reviewers offer. This is Buchanan’s first novel. Set in 1915 with the magnificent backdrop of Niagra Falls, the book is classified as an historical romance featured seventeen year old Bess Heath. In her book, Buchanan has included real news accounts and black and white photos from the hydroelectric power era in Niagra Falls. My hardcover edition is just gorgeous. To learn more about the novel, visit the author’s website.
