September “To Read” List

Share in top social networks!

I am trying to be more organized lately (HA!) with regards to my reading. I will be the first to admit, I am overextended with review books and challenges. I’ve cut back a TON on my Yahoo groups, which helps a bit, and I’ve been declining more and requesting less review books for the last two months.  I sat down today and tried to figure out what books I want to read, and what books I HAVE to read this month. Here is what I came up with:

Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich (my first read for the Random Reading Challenge)

The Angel’s Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (Library Thing Early Review book)

Sometimes We’re Always Real Same-Same by Mattox Roesch (Review book for Unbridled Books)

The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood (new release this month through Nan A. Talese/Doubleday)

Gods and Soldiers: The Penguin Anthology of Contemporary African Writing edited by Rob Spillman (review book for Penguin)

City of Refuge by Tom Piazza (review book for Harper Collins)

The Promised World by Lisa Tucker (TLC Book tour on September 22nd)

A Disobedient Girl by Ru Freeman (TLC Book tour on September 30th)

South of Broad by Pat Conroy (new release this month through Nan A. Talese/Doubleday)

That is a total of nine books – which would be a lot of books for me to read…but they all look wonderful and I am excited to read them. I am just finishing up The Help by Kathryn Stockett, and then I’ll be tackling this stack!

What are YOU reading this month?

Ah yes, the old “trying to get more organized” trick … it’s hopeless, you know!!

  2. Terri says:

You have some wonderful reading ahead of you! It looks ambitious though. Have you read any Erdrich before? She’s one of my very favorites. One day I’m going to re-read all of her books.

Good luck with the, uh, organizing! *smile*

  3. Great list! I’m not nearly organized enough to have a list. But, I’m looking forward to your review of Atwood.

  4. JoAnn says:

I’ve recently discovered Erdrich through her short stories and look forward to reading one of her novels soon!

  5. diane says:

You’ve got a serious reading month ahead of you; great selections too. enjoy

  6. vivienne says:

This is really organised and I think I may need to do the same.

  7. Michelle says:

Ooh, I’m really looking forward to reading Year of the Flood! Hope you enjoy it and good luck getting organised!

  8. Table Talk says:

We were talking about ‘The Angel Game’ in Library Group on Tuesday. It had really split the group. Some had enjoyed it (although no one as much as ‘Shadow of the Wind’) and others hadn’t been able to finish it. I’ll be interested to hear what you think. Over to the library site now to add the new Atwood to my reservation list. No doubt it will be the new year before it turns up. Never mind, I’m not exactly without something to read!

  9. Teddy says:

I am green with envy that you have The Year of Flood! I tied to get an ARC but was unsuccessful. I’m going to purchase it because she is coming to vancouver and I want a signed copy.

  10. Several of these are on my TBR, but I’m not as organized as you … all my books are in my calendar … but not on my mind until about a week ahead in the schedule. Definitely SAME-SAME and the new Atwood (soon!)

Laura: Just humor me, okay :)

Terri: This will be my first Erdich..and yes, this is an ambitious list *laughs*

Amy: I’m really looking forward to reading some Atwood!

JoAnn: Good to hear Erdich’s short stories are worth a read…I’ve heard so many good things about this author.

Diane: *nods* might be a little over-ambitious for me!

Vivienne: It makes me feel like I have a plan…but I don’t know how successful I’ll be *laughs*

Michelle: Thanks! I’ll let you know what I think about the Atwood :)

Anne: I have heard very mixed things about Angel’s Game…I loved his previous book, so I am hopeful I’ll enjoy it.

Teddy: Sorry to hear you did not snag an ARC of the Atwood…but she is definitely worth the $$ to purchase (I think I have nearly all of her books now…and this is the only one I’ve snagged as an early review/review book)

Dawn: I used to just go day to day, week to week…but I find I am more diligent with my reading if I set myself a goal of books for that month.
