I loved reading about your dogs! I have a 14 1/2 year old Standard Poodle. As my vet told me, “look at every day with her as a gift.” And we do! She’s generally healthy, but certainly getting old. Our love for our pets is so simple — we mourn their loss all the more because of this. Our relationships with humans are so much more complicated. I am so sorry for your loss of Caribou.

Thanks for asking, Maud Most of the photos in the header are of Caribou – my search and rescue dog (who this blog is named after). She passed away this year at the age of 11 and I still miss her terribly (you can read more about her on this page). Argus (the Golden) is still with us at age 10 (his story is here). We now also have a new puppy, Raven, who is 9 months old…here are some articles/photos I’ve written about her…just click on the titles to take you to the full post.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review. I feel energized by the fact that you found my book powerful, that you feel so strongly for Pigeon. I believe most fiction writers (and certainly me included) want to make emotional connections with their readers.

I hope your readers will give my book a “try.” As you say, sometimes books that deal with sad topics can be offputting, for the same reason that my husband only likes to see “happy” movies. But the rewards can be great. And I do believe Looking After Pigeon is very hopeful. I am hopeful, not just for my characters, but for us all.
