But I enjoy learning more about different cultures and countries and this book gave me a lot of insight. Maybe also because it was told from a more mature perspective, it was easier to relate to her feelings and struggles. I think the 'clinging to her culture despite the restrictions' is typical of most Asian/Eastern cultures. To 'go-it-alone' can be seen as a form of abandonment, and not only is it frowned upon, on a personal level it can prove to be a very difficult and harsh decision to make.
