Aussie Author Challenge

AussieAuthorChallenge

January 1 – December 31, 2010

Booklover Book Reviews is hosting the Aussie Author Challenge. I almost skipped past this one, but then I realized I actually had quite a few books on my TBR pile which would meet the requirements for the challenge. Readers can choose one of two levels of participation and I’m going for:

TOURIST – Read and review 3 books by 3 different Australian authors.

Reviews of books read for the challenge by ALL participants can be found all in one place here on Booklover Book Reviews.

I’ve started a list of possibilities below which I’ll update as I move forward:

  1. The Arrival, by Shaun Tan – COMPLETED March 14, 2010; rated 5/5; read my review.
  • The True History of the Kelly Gang by Peter Carey
  • The Transit of Venus by Shirley Hazzard
  • Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks
  • The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith by Thomas Keneally
  • Dirt Music by Tim Winton
  • The Sound of One Hand Clapping by Richard Flannagan
  • The Idea of Perfection by Kate Grenville
  • The White Earth by Andrew MacGahan
  • Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts

I’ve been on the lookout for more Australian and Canadian authors. I’ll keep an eye on what people are reading for this challenge.

This is one of my favourite kinds of literature. I’m doing this one too. I loved The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith, Dirt Music, and The Idea of Perfection. I have copies of One Hand Clapping and White Earth, will have to dig them up. Have fun.

Thanks for joining me in this challenge! Our potential Aussie author reading lists have a lot in common actually. I’d like to read The Idea of Perfection by Kate Grenville too, it’s on my wishlist. Titles by Geraldine Brooks, Tim Winton and Richard Flanagan are on my radar also. I read The Year of Wonders by Brooks a few years ago – excellent.

    Look forward to sharing reviews!

Oh that lot Wendy I’d say start with The transit of Venus (wonderful book, wonderful writer) and The idea of perfection. They are all good, but these two writers are often overlooked and well worth giving a go.

    Staci and Kathy: Thanks!

El Fay: *nods* This is one area of the world I am lacking in…

Sandra: They all sound so good, don’t they?

Booklover Book Reviews: Thanks for hosting!

Whispering Gums: Thanks for the recommendations…The Transit of Venus has been on my radar for awhile so it is good to see you loved it.
