Mailbox Monday – May 10, 2010

Wow, the weeks just seem to spin by these days. Welcome to this weekly edition of Mailbox Monday hosted every Monday at Marcia’s blog The Printed Page.

Last week I had a blow out week in books. This week was back to normal – but I still found a couple of  great books in my mailbox.

Here is what arrived by mail and UPS:

A finished copy of South of Broad by Pat Conroy arrived unsolicited from Random House. I have to admit, I am feeling a little guilty about this because months ago I received an ARC of this book (which WAS requested) and I still have yet to read it. I’ve been reading some of the reviews of the TLC Book Tour of this book, and perhaps receiving the book this week in the mail was just the push I needed to read it sooner rather than later. And you know what that means? I’ll have an ARC to give away to one of my readers at that time.

Pat Conroy is a best selling author of nine books. You can read more about him and his work by visiting the author’s website.

An Advance Readers Edition of City of Veils by Zoe Ferraris arrived from Miriam at Little, Brown and Co.  I am VERY excited about this book because I read Ferraris’ debut novel Finding Nouf and really liked it (read my review). City of Veils is the sequel to Finding Nouf and once again stars Katya, one of the only females working in the Saudi Arabian coroner’s office. Aided by her friend Nayir (also from the first book), Katya is caught up in the brutal beating death of a woman found on the beach in Jeddah.

City of Veils is due for release in August 2010.

From the publisher:

Zoë Ferraris moved to Saudi Arabia in the aftermath of the first Gulf War to live with her then husband and his extended family of Saudi-Palestinian Bedouins, who had never met an American before. She has an MFA from Columbia University and is the author of one previous novel, Finding Nouf. She lives in San Francisco.

Read more about Ferraris and her work by visiting the author’s website.
