Thank you to all those who took a minute to enter this contest. There were some fun responses to the question: What do you like best about women’s fiction?
I don’t know if you have been following the recent controversy about the labeling of books as “chick lit” or “women’s fiction” … but, it is clear to me that books in this genre are much loved. I know I enjoy books written by and about women…and it appears that readers here on my blog agree.
Women’s fiction always has a set of circumstances and characters whose experience I can empathize with. Many times the writer portrays the situations in a realistic manner which is memorable. (comment by Ruth)
What I like most about women’s fiction is that it relates to the common experience of womanhood. Even if I haven’t been through the exact experiences I can live vicariously through them, or relate to them on some level. (comment by Alyce @ At Home With Books)
What I like best about women’s fiction are the characters– whether they are people I can relate to, and they give me comfort or insight regarding my own life, or if they help me learn about people that are nothing like me. (comment by Laura @ I’m Booking It)
Women’s fiction helps me make sense of my own life and emotionsa and gives me a different perspective on women’s experiences. I enjoy reading about other women’s lives and relationships – it’s like having a bunch of new friends every time you open the cover! (comment by Ravenous Reader @ Bookstack)
So who has won the book? I used Random.org and it generated the winner for me.
Congratulations to JESS at Barney’s Book Blog who wrote:
I like women’s fiction because the characters usually have to make hard decisions and you as a reader can wonder — what would I do in the same situation? The books also make for fantastic discussions at book club or amongst bloggers.
I’ll be dropping you an email, Jess…please respond to that with your snail mail so we can get your book right out to you!
