P2 Squared Modern Quilt-A-Long

Ryan Walsh and Charlie Scott of Patchwork Squared are hosting the debut of their design company’s first modern quilt along. This is a 7 week FREE on line class where participants will learn how to construct 9 modern quilt blocks using only solid fabrics. The quilt along will begin Monday, March 28, 2011 (you can join at any time).  When finished, participants will have assembled a 44” x 44” quilt. Fabrics used in the patterns will be from the Kona Cotton line by Robert Kaufman Fabrics.

Fabric kits will be available for purchase through the Fat Quarter Shop (with a special coupon good for 20% off  the purchase available for the duration of the quilt along – enter the code “kona20” at checkout to receive your discount). Grab a kit in either Mango Azure, Cardinal Banana or Glacier Cactus – enough fabric for the top, backing and binding. I’m making the Mango Azure which you can see at the top of this post (you can also assemble your own custom kit – check out this post for the yardage needed for the quilt along).

Here is the breakdown of the quilt-a-long by week (I’ve given you a link to the week #1 post):

Week 1: Monday, March 28 – Intro
Week 2: Monday, April 4 – Block 1
Week 3: Monday, April 11 – Blocks 2 & 3
Week 4: Monday, April 18 – Blocks 4 & 5
Week 5: Monday, April 25 – Blocks 6 & 7
Week 6: Monday, May 2 – Blocks 8 & 9
Week 7: Monday, May 9 – Finishing/exit post

Quilters of all skill levels are welcome to join. Participants who finish blocks and post them to the quilt along’s flickr group page will be eligible for inclusion in giveaways of prizes donated by some great sponsors.

You can learn more information about the quilt along by visiting P2’s website or joining the official flickr group.

I’ll be posting updates as I go forward on this project – hope I’ll see some of you there!
