Every Last One – Book Giveaway

Every Last One by Anna Quindlen
400 pages
ISBN 978-0812976885
Random House Trade Paperbacks; Reprint edition (March 2011)

Anna Quindlen is fast becoming one of my favorite authors – and with her novel Every Last One (released in trade paperback this month through Random House) she stole my heart (read my review). I cannot gush enough about Quindlen’s amazing talent…and so I am thrilled to be able to offer one reader of my blog a brand new copy of her latest novel. First, a little information.

ABOUT THE BOOK (from the publisher):

New York Times bestselling author Anna Quindlen creates an unforgettable portrait of a mother, a father, a family, and the explosive, violent consequences of what seem like inconsequential actions.

Mary Beth Latham is first and foremost a mother, whose three teenaged children come first, before her career as a landscape gardener, or even her life as the wife of a doctor.  Caring for her family and preserving their everyday life is paramount.  And so, when one of her sons, Max, becomes depressed, Mary Beth becomes focused on him, and is blindsided by a shocking act of violence. What happens afterwards is a testament to the power of a woman’s love and determination, and to the invisible line of hope and healing that connects one human being with another.

Ultimately, in the hands of Anna Quindlen’s mesmerizing prose, Every Last One is a novel about facing every last one of the the things we fear most, about finding ways to navigate a road we never intended to travel, to live a life we never dreamed we’d have to live but must be brave enough to try.

I read your review and this book sounds like it will be very difficult to read, but well worth it. I’m hoping I can handle it.

The one thing I am so blessed with are my sons. Women often dream about becoming a mother, but you just don’t know until you are one just how precious these little human beings are to you. Since they were born there isn’t a day where I don’t wake up looking forward to seeing their smiling faces and when I have to be away from them, I just can’t wait to see them again. Motherhood is a beautiful thing. 🙂

I will name two things that I am blessed to have in my life: my husband and children. You could take everything else away, and if I still had them, I would be ok.

  3. March 30, 2011

One thing that I hold dear in my life is my family, which right now consists of my husband and our dog. I’d rather be with them than anywhere else.

This book sounds like an emotional roller coaster, but hopefully one with a soft landing. 🙂 I’d love to give it a read!

Certaiinly my family is my greatest blessing, and since the death of my husband the fact that my son and his family are in the same town as myself, doubles that blessing.
This novel sounds fascinating; thanks for the giveaway.

So amny things I hold dear…. Not even attempting to prioritize so I’m just going to throw one out, and trying to be slightly different and not state the obvious…. I truly hold my circle of friends close to my heart. Some of them have been in my life for a quarter century or more (and I’m not *that* old!) and they still love me! I absolutely believe that a woman can’t function without her peeps!

To me, my family is what’s dearest to me. I know it sounds cliche, but truth is I never appreciated my family much until my brother was hospitalized last year. That’s when I realized anything can happen in an instant and I began to renew my relationships all over.

I am blessed to have my family and they are dear to me. Your review was wonderful and Every Last One is immediately going on my wish list.

oooo! Quindlen strikes again – this sounds amazing!

I hold my children dear. I was indifferently parented, and being able to be demonstrative and affectionate with them is so very rewarding (and healing!)

Definitely my family. They are amazing. My husband works so hard to take care of us and still has the good spirit to make me giggle like a school girl on a daily basis. He is by far the funniest person I have ever met. My daughter, who has the best personality and is always in a good mood and finds the positive in everything. I wish I had her amazing outlook on life. And my son, who was born a month early and has some learning disabilites. Every day he amazes me with his progress and makes my heart melt with his funny quirks.

Thank you for the awesome giveaway, every time I read a new review of this book I want to read it more!

First of all, I really enjoyed the author’s interview on the Youtube. It really struck me how Anna Quindlen had to struggle with herself to write a violent scene.

To answer the question one thing I hold dear in my life are the young people in my life, my adult children and grandchildren. They are my life. How would I live without them? Impossible.

  15. April 3, 2011

I feel blessed to live in a small community with my family and church and workplace. Such a blessing!

I’ve only read Quindlen’s nonfiction, so I’d love to try her fiction. Thank you for this lovely giveaway.
