A Beach Bag for Mom…

Last week I was back in New Hampshire in time for my mother’s birthday and I brought with me something I made several weeks ago. My mother loves going to the beach and so what better than an over-sized beach bag to take along?

This bag is huge (20″ wide, 17″ tall) which is perfect for the beach. It is fully lined and even has a little zippered pocket in which to put a cell phone or some dollar bills.

The pattern is from Pink Sand Beach Designs and it is pretty easy…although I did break two (yes TWO) needles stitching this bag because of bulky seams. I used the wonderful new Lucy’s Crab Shack collection by Sweetwater. I love the tiny flags, bathing suits hung on a line and names of beaches all over the United States. I made one adaptation to the pattern – I used fabric for the straps instead of webbing because I wanted to use that word fabric!

My mom was thrilled with her new bag and I hope she’ll think of me when she gets a chance to stretch out on the beach some day!

Happy Birthday, Mom!

This is a great bag, and so, so cool that you used the word fabric on the handles as well. I would love to have had a bag like this made for me! One of these days, I am going to have to go to the quilting class they have down at the church, and see how it’s done!

    It’s adorable!
I’m catching up on blogs after months away and was so sorry to hear the fires touched so many of your neighbors and loved places. So much fire devastation this year.

What a great bag, Wendy! I love the cheery fabric! Makes me wish I knew how to sew… Of course, then I’d become a fabric hoarder instead of a book hoarder. 🙂
