2012 Finish Along – Fourth Quarter

Hosted by Quilter in the Gap, the 2012 Finish-A-Long provides great motivation to get those quilting projects done! I’ve joined the Flickr group to keep me inspired.

Check out my first quarter post (I finished all three projects from January through March).

Check out my second quarter post (I’ve provided links to the projects I have finished on that post – in total I completed four projects – I was shooting for five, but did not quite make it).

Check out my third quarter post (I managed to complete three projects)

So now it is time to figure out what I want to finish up from October through December! Most of the quilts I’ve listed here are being carried over from the third quarter because, well, I still need to finish them.

Once again I have included more quilts in this post than I probably can realistically complete. But, I like to be able to choose which projects to work on by whim…and so, I’m giving myself a lot to choose from. My goal: finish four of these. I will be crossing them off as I complete them and providing a link to my blog post about each quilt.

  • Kool Kaleidoscope Quilt

I started this quilt totally on a whim after buying Ricky Tims’ book. I actually completely pieced this one in a weekend. So the top is finished, but I need to piece and cut the back and then get it pinned and quilted. This is a smallish lap sized quilt. The fabrics are really a mix of a lot of things – but you can see some of my favorites Kaffe fabrics are included.

  • Vintage Holiday Quilt Along Quilt

COMPLETED October 18, 2012See my post about the quilt here.

I decided to use some of my holiday Kate Spain fabric which I have been stashing and join the Vintage Holiday QAL hosted by Fabric Mutt. This quilt uses Camille Roskelley’s Vintage Holiday quilt pattern. You can see more interpretations of the pattern by visiting the Flickr group dedicated to the quilt a long. This is a nice lap sized quilt. I decided to add some interest to the corners of the borders in my quilt. The front is pieced, but I still need to piece the back and get this one quilted.

  • Mama’s China

I adore Sweetwater fabrics and their new Mama Said Sew fabric is to die for. I bought a jelly roll and constructed all but the borders for Sweetwater’s vintage-feel Mama’s China pattern. This quilt will finish at 74″ X 74″ because I am doing three borders. I had to wait until yardage was released to finish this quilt (which I just purchased at Intrepid Threads). This is one I am motivated to get done before the end of the year!

COMPLETED December 12, 2012See my post about the quilt here.

  • Diamond Chevron

This is a “carry over” from the third Quarter. During a senior moment, I purchased not one, not two, not three…but FOUR charm packs of Lily Ashbury’s bright and cheerful Summer House fabric. I guess I really loved it! I’ve got this one mostly cut out and it is on my design wall. I’ve been playing with the layout. I keep moving all those half square triangles around with the goal of creating a quilt which celebrates diamonds and chevrons. It will be a comfortable lap size when completed.

  • Vintage Spin Cycle

Like half the on line quilting community, I went a little crazy when Denyse Schmidt re-released the fabulously popular Flea Market Fancy collection. I actually bought yard cuts of all the fabrics plus some large cuts of two of the fabrics to use on the back of a quilt. I purchased the Spin Cycle pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew and have started cutting and piecing this quilt. Although the pattern is for a 75″ X 75″ quilt, I’m planning to make this one a bit bigger so it will drape nicely on my bed (and I have plenty of fabric!!)

  • Color Wheels Quilt

I had a ton of fabric left over after making the Colors of Spain, and I am dying to use it up. I recently purchased the amazing Quilting Modern book by Jacquie Gering and Katie Pedersen…and I am in the process of cutting fabric and designed a quilt inspired by two quilts from that book: Blind Co-Pilot and Swirling Medallion. I’ve actually got quite a bit of the piecing done on the front…but it is a time consuming process so I don’t know if I’ll actually finish this quilt or not before the end of the year.

  • Starlight Quilt

I absolutely could not resist purchasing this amazing quilt kit from Hawthorne Threads. The fabric is Bari J Ackerman’s new Lilly Belle collection and the quilt will measure approximately 80″ x 80″ when completed. I have the entire quilt cut out and ready to piece. I have to tell you, Art Gallery fabric has the most wonderful “hand” – I am looking forward to getting this one done.

  • Ripples and Reflections BOM

I decided to list this one, although I think it will be a long shot for me to complete it. I joined my local quilt shop’s BOM club and have been working on this huge quilt since January (it will be a king-size quilt when done). We’re due to finish the top in November, so it is possible that I could find the time to piece the back and get it quilted before the end of the year. We’ll see!!

Wish me luck!!!
