2013 Finish-A-Long: First Quarter

The 2013 Finish-A-Long is being hosted by Leanne at She Can Quilt and it encourages sewists to finish what they started! There are prize giveaways at the end of the quarter. I played along in 2012 with Quilter In The Gap and found this challenge to be very motivating. So I’m joining again! The rules state that only projects already started may be included. There is also a Flickr group where participants post their finished project.

Once again I have included more quilts in this post than I probably can realistically complete. But, I like to be able to choose which projects to work on by whim…and so, I’m giving myself a lot to choose from. My goal: finish three of these. I will be crossing them off as I complete them and providing a link to my blog post about each quilt.

  • Kool Kaleidoscope Quilt

I started this quilt totally on a whim after buying Ricky Tims’ book. I actually completely pieced this one in a weekend. So the top is finished, but I need to piece and cut the back and then get it pinned and quilted. This is a smallish lap sized quilt. The fabrics are really a mix of a lot of things – but you can see some of my favorites Kaffe fabrics are included.

  • Vintage Spin Cycle

I don’t know why this quilt has been in “stall” status for so long, but I am determined to get working on it again soon. I purchased the Spin Cycle pattern from Cluck Cluck Sew and have started cutting and piecing this quilt using Flea Market Fancy by Denyse Schmidt. Although the pattern is for a 75″ X 75″ quilt, I’m planning to make this one a bit bigger so it will drape nicely on my bed (and I have plenty of fabric!!)

  • Starlight Quilt

I absolutely could not resist purchasing this amazing quilt kit from Hawthorne Threads. The fabric is Bari J Ackerman’s new Lilly Belle collection and the quilt will measure approximately 80″ x 80″ when completed. I half of the front pieced right now.

  • Ripples and Reflections BOM

I joined my local quilt shop’s BOM club and have been working on this huge quilt since January 2012 (it will be a king-size quilt when done). The top is completely pieced and I now have to piece the back and get it quilted which will be the biggest challenge in sewing I have yet to face!

  • Patchwork Prism Quilt

This is a quilt I started on a whim when I saw this quilt-along hosted by Sweet Diesel Designs (here is a free download of the pattern which was designed by Anna Maria Horner). I have a lot left to do on this quilt…and really, this is one I might not even come close to finishing. But it sure will be pretty if I ever get it completed.  The quilt top is approximately 70″ X 76″.

  1. I love all the projects on your list and am looking forward to seeing which you tackle first!

  2. You’ve got some great projects there and I’m loving the Flea Market Fancy Spin Cycle – I’ve also got some FMF just itchin’ to be stitched up. And the kaleidoscope is just beautiful too! Good luck!

  3. All of these are wonderful, and I am so awed by your talent with these quilts! Very nice job with these!

Those are all very beautiful. The blue and purple one really stands out. Those colors are fantastic. Good luck.
