Sunday Salon

April 14, 2013

Good morning and welcome to this week’s edition of The Sunday Salon. Visit the Facebook Page for links to other bloggers’ posts.

You won’t see a ton of reviews on my blog over the past week although I have finished reading some books. I’m touring two books this month for TLC Book Tours and decided to get them read early. Watch for my reviews as follows:

Paradise Guest HouseThe Paradise Guest House by Ellen Sussman – giveaway and review to be posted on April 16,2013 (my rating: 4hStars). Check out other blogger reviews by clicking through links on the TLC Book Tour page.

AllYouCouldAskForAll You Could Ask For by Mike Greenberg – review to be posted April 22, 2013 (my rating: 3hstars). Check out other blogger reviews by clicking through links on the TLC Book Tour page.

MovementOfStarsMy current read is historical fiction which I am reading for my newly formed face-to-face book club. We’re meeting for the first time on April 20th and the book we will be discussing is The Movement of the Stars by Amy Brill (Riverhead Books, April 2013). This novel starts a bit slow, but then picks up. Brill is a good writer and I am caring about the protagonist, Hannah, who is a Quaker woman living on Nantucket in the mid-1800s. The novel was inspired by the life of Maria Mitchell who was the first professional female astronomer in America. There are also some historical characters woven through the book.

Next up in the stacks is a book which just arrived last week and I am super excited about it…

MountainsEchoedAnd the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini! I can’t wait to read this one…my review of it won’t post until May 1st or after (per request of the publisher), but I hope you’ll come back then to see what I thought!

Today promises to be a beautiful day here in the California mountains. I’m taking a walk later with hubby and Raven, and hope to finish piecing the top of my next quilt. I hope to find a little time to sit outside on the porch and read, too.

What about you? What are you doing on this mid-April day? Whatever it is, I hope it includes a great book!

I can’t wait to read the Hosseini book also. I loved The Kite Runner.

The sun finally came out in my neck of So. Cal. It looked like it might rain and I’ve heard that it’s supposed to but it doesn’t look like that now.

I am going to go read Orphan Train for a book tour and then go back to my the book I am hosting a read-along for (The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle).

  2. I’m listening to The Paradise Guest House right now and I’m not loving it as much as everyone else seems to be. I’m hoping it will come together for me soon.

Yeah I’m curious about the Sussman book. Seems like it’s getting good buzz. & I’m looking forward to Hosseini’s new book — I’ve read both of his others. cheers.

sounds like you still have some busy reading time scheduled.

  3. I am reading Amity and Sorrow, and am so ensnared with it. It’s such a strange and wild read, but it’s kind of scary and definitely one that has teeth. That hopefully will be finished by today, but I also have a book club read to finish by tomorrow, and I need to get back to it. I only just started it, and I am way behind!!
