Preparing: 24 Hour Read-A-Thon

24read_lighter-300x300Tomorrow morning at 5:00 am PST the 24 Hour Read-A-Thon starts and I’m getting myself ready! I have learned from past Read-A-Thons that preparation is important so today I did the following:

  • Printed out my “stat” sheet to keep track of the hours I read, blog, visit and participate challenges
  • Set up my posts to be posted on my blog every two hours during the Read-A-Thon (if I don’t do this, I find myself increasingly unable to post as fatigue sets in)
  • Gathered my books together

I’ve also been thinking about food (very important for concentration!!!). Tomorrow morning I plan to put stew in my slow cooker so that dinner will be all done and I won’t have any real cooking to do except throw a crusty loaf of bread in the oven to heat up. Tonight I will be making a HUGE salad to snack on throughout the day, as well as a fruit salad for a quick pick-me-up. I’ve got yogurt, apples, nuts, and plenty of juices and Gatorade. I also have some energy bars. I picked up some cold cuts and cheese for a quick, healthy sandwich for lunch tomorrow. So I think I’m all set in the food department.

So are you interested in seeing what is on my stack of possible reads? I went for variety – a collection of short stories, two good looking mysteries/suspense-thrillers, a woman’s fiction book which has been getting raves, and a couple of literary fiction titles:

Constellation RoundHouse Tuesday'sGOne

ArchitectOfFlowers AlwaysWatching MeBeforeYou

A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marra (384 pages)

The Round House by Louise Erdrich (336 pages)

Tuesday’s Gone by Nicci French (370 pages)

The Architect of Flowers by William Lychack (161 pages)

Always Watching by Chevy Stevens (352 pages)

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes (481 pages)

The last time I participated in this event was in October of 2011 when I lasted 20 hours and read 3 books (603 pages). Last year there was so much happening in my life, that I missed out, but this year, I’m hoping to get some good reading in. I hope to last 20 hours or more, and read at least 800 pages, which will be a stretch for me!

I hope you’ll stop in tomorrow to see how I am doing!!

  1. Good luck!

  2. I just started the Marra book – not too far into it but great so far! Wishing you success! :–)

  3. Good luck and have fun tomorrow! I still have to go out tonight and get my food and snacks for tomorrow. I’m hoping to read four books, but that might be a stretch.

  4. Have fun and Happy Reading!

  5. Yay! Great plans. This is the first time I get to be home for the entire 24 hours, except for picking up/dropping off kids at friends’ houses. I’m excited!

What’s this stat sheet you speak of?
