Face To Face Book Club Reads

In April of 2013, I started a Face to Face Book Club with my two good friends, Cathie and Connie. This is the page where I will keep a running total of the books we read together and what we thought of them.

MovementOfStarsThe Movement of Stars by Amy Brill (Riverhead Books)

Why We Picked It: This was offered to us as a book club pick through Penguin Books and so decided to give it a try.

What We Thought: We all agreed the novel opens slowly and it took some time to engage with the characters. Brill concentrates on the technology of astronomy in the early pages, but by the time she launches into Part II of the novel, the characters begin to lead the story. One member of our Book Club chose not to finish the novel because she felt it was too slow, while two of us did read to the end and enjoyed the book. Read Wendy’s review.

  • Wendy’s Rating: 4Stars
  • Cathie’s Rating: DNF
  • Connie’s Rating: 3hstars

WheredYouGoWhere’d You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple

Why We Picked It: We thought it sounded funny and like a good, quick read. Wendy liked that it was recently nominated for the Women’s Prize for Fiction.

What We Thought: Read Wendy’s Review.

Wendy’s Rating: 5stars
